How to Make the Most of Your Time at the JP Morgan Healthcare Conference

by MacDougall Team

We are nearing the year’s end, which means we are in full planning mode for the 2024 JP Morgan Healthcare Conference (JPM). JPM continues to be the most important and impactful event for the biotech, medtech and healthcare industries and serves as a great opportunity to meet with all your key audiences at once, whether that be potential investors or future partners.

Today, we launched our annual JPM Events Guide, which is your go-to source to be informed on all networking opportunities taking place during JPM week. Whether it’s your first JPM conference or your tenth, MacDougall is here to provide you with the inside scoop to make the most of your time in San Francisco, from sun-up to sun-down. We’ve put together an overview of the conferences, receptions & parties, access to intelligence and analysis of biopharma partners, and resources for the best ways to manage your time during one of the busiest weeks of the year.

We know it’s easy to get lost in the sea of activity at JPM, so we’ve compiled some helpful tips to keep you on track:

Understand Your Objective – Going into JPM, it’s important to remember what the biggest goals for your company are and tailor your time and energy to meet those goals. Do you need to raise your next fundraising round? Are you thinking about going public in 2024? Looking for strategic partners for a particular element of your pipeline? Each of these goals would lead to different meetings and events. There is only so much time, so you need to zero in on what is most likely to create the outcome you’re looking for in the year ahead.

Know Your Message – Once you nail down your key objective, it’s important to hone your message. This should be started early to ensure your entire team is able to contribute and tell the same story. You’ll want to ensure your entire team is able to communicate a story that addresses the critical need that your company solves, how you’re going to achieve it and what milestones you’re going to hit along the way. This involves preparation and practice to ensure you can tell your story accurately and succinctly. It’s also important to deliver your message with the authority and enthusiasm required to demonstrate that not only is the promise of your company exciting, but you have the right team in place to deliver on this promise.

Understand Your Follow Ups – You’re back home after a successful JPM week. You told your story well and met with the right people- now what? It’s important to develop a long-term strategy for how you’ll connect and communicate with the contacts you’ve created. Develop a roadmap that incorporates how you’ll communicate the milestones that you discussed during your time at JPM. Set timelines for the frequency and cadence of which you’ll reach out to these contacts knowing that each will be different depending on the meetings you had.
