Director, Investor Relations

Location: Natick, MA

SUMMARY / OVERVIEW:

This candidate must have a passion for learning and communicating about science, technology and innovation to drive successful investment and growth opportunities. A candidate with a a client-facing Wall Street or capital markets background is a strong plus. Ability to manage client accounts, lead account team staff and experience developing successful strategic communications programs are critical to this role. This position will develop investor relations strategies that will elevate the visibility of clients among multiple key audiences including venture capital/private equity, bankers, institutional funds, sell side analysts and retail investors.

This position reports to the Managing Director of MacDougall’s investor relations practice. Candidates should have enthusiasm for the life sciences industry, the ability to communicate complex scientific and clinical information to sophisticated investment audiences and experience with private and public company financing activities.

Requirements:

  • Provide clients with strategic investor communications counsel
  • Supervise accounts and work with account team to best support our clients’ business goals and objectives and drive production of timely, high quality deliverables
  • Participate in the development of presentations and corporate messaging that integrate fundamental company strengths with key milestones targeted to investor audiences
  • Cultivate new client relationships with the healthcare buyside, sellside and venture capital community
  • Design and manage Wall Street special events to provide in-depth understanding of client programs including analyst days, and financial community receptions at medical meetings
  • Support clients during investor roadshows and investor conference participation
  • Design and implement crisis communications planning programs and actively participate in the counsel of client companies undergoing crisis situations including: trial failures, stock price fluctuations, activist investor campaigns, financing challenges, etc.
  • Partner with the MacDougall media relations and creative services practices to generate new client business that reflects our integrated approach to communications
  • Established network in life sciences/healthcare is a plus (private or public investors)
  • Interest and experience driving investor outreach, pitching ideas
  • Strong analytical, written and oral communication skills
  • Desire to contribute skills and experience to add depth and service breadth to rapidly growing IR practice
  • Agile, flexible team player

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; major or post-graduate studies in a scientific or communications-related discipline a plus
  • 10 or more years of overall financial, investor relations, or scientific/medical communications experience
  • 8 years of strategy development experience
  • Understanding of the drug development process and critical milestones
  • Wall Street/capital markets fluency and existing relationships with life science investment community
