Dominic Beal, Ph.D.

Dominic is an Account Executive at MacDougall, where he specializes in scientific writing and strategic communications. As a PhD-trained Immunologist with over a decade of experience working in academia, contract research and the biotech industry, Dominic has a diverse knowledge base in autoimmunity, oncology and infectious disease. Prior to joining MacDougall, Dominic was the Scientific Advisor at the Food Allergy Science Initiative, coordinating over 20 academic researchers and clinicians from across the US to help develop FASI’s scientific strategy of re-shaping the food allergy research space, as well as translating the details of academic research into language aimed at potential partners, investors, and the general public. Dominic also worked in pre-clinical study design for Biomodels, a CRO focused on generating IND-enabling data, and as a research scientist in several early-stage biotechs in the Boston area. Dominic received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Cambridge, before earning a master’s degree in the Immunology of Infectious Disease at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine. He moved from England to the United States in 2006 and performed his PhD research in the lab of Dr. Daniel Remick at the Boston University School of Medicine, primarily focusing on the role of macrophage phenotypes in asthma.
5 things you always wanted to know about Dominic:

if it was winter, probably try to go skiing for the first time in about 10 years; if it was summer, probably just stay indoors and complain about the temperature.
My colleagues might be happy if I talked less about…
parasitic worm infections.
I’ve read almost everything ever written by…
Iain (M) Banks – wrote both science fiction and regular fiction usually with some kind of unnecessarily disturbing plot twist at the end; sadly died in 2013.
Back in the day I was…
the drummer in a very small but locally (in)famous black metal band.
Super powers are cliché, I just wish I could…
get to sleep and/or wake up when I needed to.
